The Emily Goudie Guild is named after a Children’s patient and
young friend, Emily Goudie. Emily
was diagnosed at birth with Cystic Fibrosis. Guild founder, Lisa
Mawer, met Emily at
Stanley Stamm Summer Camp in August of 1995, she was 8. Stanley
Stamm Camp is held every summer for Children’s patients too ill
to attend “regular” camp. Everyone who knew
Emily was blessed to share in her
joy, pure and simple for laughing. She loved camp so much. Her favorite
was listening to nurse Carrie play the guitar at night in the cabins
at night. Her cabin was always the party cabin… she’d invite the
other girl cabins over so everyone could join in the sing along
while sitting on bunks, most often, playing with each other’s hair.
In 1996, Cystic Fibrosis took Emily’s life at age 11. Through her
countless treatments and suffering, she was always laughing. She
is the inspiration for all that we do as a guild.
Our guild was founded in 1999, when a group of college friends began
married life and decided that our monthly “Girl’s Nights” we were
already enjoying, could serve as “Guild Meetings” as well. The Emily
Goudie Guild was official in 1999, starting with 6 founding members,
two of which are still active today.
Currently, we have 16 members and continue to grow. We do a number
of things to benefit the hospital. They include:
In our first five years as a guild, we raised a total of $19,
564 which we chose to give to the Uncompensated Care Fund at
Children's
Hospital. This fund enables all children to receive the best
quality care, regardless of the family’s ability to pay for that
care. We look forward to continuous growth, both in membership and
dollars from our little guild inspired by an absolute inspiration
named Emily.
